Haven't used Axure for a while, but today when I tried it I encountered an immediate Windows error (one of those send a report to MS thingies) telling me it had to close Axure. I was on 5.6, I thought the latest version. Anyway, I uninstalled and did my best to clean the Registry of any Axure stuff, but of course can't be sure I got it all. I then downloaded and installed the current build and still the same thing happens.

So essentially I'm dead in the water here with what appears to be a major conflict of some sort. I have only ever used Axure on this system, but obviously over time have uninstalled/installed various Apps, so am bluffed as to why its suddenly stopped working.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Patrick,

This may be an issue with the installation of the Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0. We can try uninstalling Axure RP, uninstalling the .Net framework 2.0, and then reinstalling Axure RP (which will install the 2.0 framework).

To uninstall Axure RP, you can go to All Programs->Axure->Uninstall Axure RP Pro 5.
To uninstall the .Net framework 2.0, go to Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs and browse for the Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 and select Remove.
Then, reinstall Axure RP.

I noticed BTW that it didn't reinstall .NET 2, so maybe the latest version of 5.6 runs on .NET 3.0 or 3.5; both of which were already installed? Maybe that was how the conflict arose?I seem to remember reading somewhere that 3/3.5 introduced backward compatibility not that I've tried to test that; I had them all installed

 ...now wondering if I have anything else installed than needs 2.0; oh well :)

Hmm ... suprised it let you uninstall version 2 without first uninstalling 3 and 3.5. Versions 3 and 3.5 come with 2 so I'm surprised 2 isn't showing up anymore. Well, glad it's working and I hope it doesn't cause any other issues.

Well, seems I rejoiced to soon...it worked for a while, now I'm back to getting the same error. Currently installed are .NET 1.1, 3SP1 and 3.5SP1. Should I download and install .NET 2?

Hi Patrick, it may be worth trying to uninstall and reinstall 3.5 and 3 and see if that fixes it.

Have you tried a system restore? Axure wouldn't start for me, so I did a SR and worked fine

Thanks Victor, the reinstall worked...although I must say I'm now starting to feel a bit gun-shy about this stuff. I'd had an unbroken run for a couple of years  there and then didn't need to use Axure for quite a few months. I need now to only use it very intermittently and wouldn't want to go through this exercise every time :)

Hi Patrick, yeah, it's not fun to have to do that frequently. I'm not sure what could be changing between uses that would then be solved by reinstalling the framework. Hate to suggest it, but it may be worth resinstalling Windows at some point and start from a clean slate.
