    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Thanks Victor,

    Btw, great responsiveness, I like this! Nice to see a company so actively listening to its customers.

    Also, just to be clear, my OSes on 3 computers (2 Vista, 1 XP Pro) are all in English as well as all the software I use. I'm fine with the actual application being in English (and I actually prefer it) but it's the generated specs and prototypes I'd like to be able to "translate" more easily.

    As I said earlier in the thread, I'm very new to Axure and still have a lot to learn, especially about the stuff that's not immediately visible like editing the Word templates and specs labels. But I see from others' comments that a need and desire to ease this process seems to be there. I'm still unclear about the specifics of what can be changed now in this version or how to do so so that's why my own comments are not very specific either. Maybe adding adding a few pages/videos on the subject in the "How to Use" section of your site would help.

    Thanks again for the quick replies!

    Stéphane

    I heartily second that.  Your support team is really on the ball.  I'm amazed at how much of a positive impact your company's willingness to answer my questions in a speedy manner  has had on me.  I actually found my "hackles rising" the other day when I inadvertently came across some iRise marketing designed to lure me away from Axure.  Your responsiveness has won my loyalty.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    I'd also like to see more RIA widgets in Axure.

    yesterday I created an accordion in Axure RP 5 and it was a b*tch. I designed 10 panels, each with two states: open and closed. EACH open and EACH closed state controlled all the other panels' positions. there was plenty of copying and pasting but still tweaking the links took hours.

    I believe Axure should echo the opinion of Canadian CSS software creators Skybound: "if we find a request represents a gain in productivity, we do it". their software, Stylizer, is THE best CSS option around, no two ways about it.

    now, speaking of RIA, I'd like to do a little wrap-up of this post and propose some other functionalities:

    - accordion (both vertical and horizontal);

    - tree menu;

    - tabbed panel (again, both vertical and horizontal);

    - floating window (pretty much a dynamic panel for the *user* to drag, resize and minimize);

    - conditional options (checkboxes that get "grayed out" if their corresponding radio button isn't selected).

    and finally, an independent way to add widgets: they'd be available in Axure's webpage for download on-demand. in a nutshell, "don't install what you don't need".

    how about it?

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    For the accordion you created, did you need to be able to have multiple sections open at once? If not, the way we have created them is to use a single dynamic panel. In your case it would have 10 states. Each state contains all the section headers and one of the sections expanded. That may help simplify things a bit.

    Easier ways to create all of those widgets would be great enhancements. And we are adding the ability to independently add widgets (made of existing widgets) to the library.

    For the conditional options request, currently you can set a checkbox to disabled (right click, Edit Checkbox, Set Disabled) and you can do so conditioned on whether a radio button is selected. Is there something missing?

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases - dont open a browser on Prototype

    A suggestion, allow us to select to not open a new browser window when a prototype is created. It pops a new window, and then you're running in Win and viewing a Mac - it just slows us down.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Not sure if this has already been asked for, add it to the list or consider it validation for a previous post:

    can we have keyboard shortcuts to hiding and revealing  side panels.

    i.e. opening and closing the 'Annotations & Interactions' panel

    cheers

    The ability to do mathematical functions, to use different data types and more than 25 variables would be handy.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Hi,

     I very much agree with what was written above. For starters, page notes could be upgraded to accept at least the most common filetypes used for spec documents.

    Allows basic team interaction & updating the demo environment in WF. For smaller teams it would to some extent remove the necessity of waisting valuable time with a variety of "project management tools".

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    I'd like to second the need for such controls as:

    Accordian

    Tree

    Tabbed Panel

    I do a fair amount of desktop UI along with web-based work and the hardest part for me is simulating some of the desktop controls found in Visio.

    Another thing that would be nice is the ability to add Office 2007 style Ribbons.

    Some other minor things would be more shapes, like Circles and diagonal lines.

    Finally, the ability to change the size of multilpe objects at once.  Currently CNTL+L only works on one object at a time.

    Thanks, and keep up the great work!  It's fairly incredible the amount of work we can do from this one program.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Hi Brian,

    I've only been working with Axure for a couple of days, but there are a couple of suggestions I have that may help.

    First, this program is way too mouse-click intensive.  It would be nice if you could build in logical keyboard shortcuts for things like creating new pages.

    Second, improving the undo/redo with a repeat function.  Clicking an icon to add a page, then clicking twice on the new page name to edit could be streamlined with a simple keystroke combo, and the notion that the page is editable right after adding.

    Third, rulers and guides.  Being able to put in restrictions on dimensions (for optimal viewing area on a web page for example), similar to Visio, would be great.

    Fourth, adding widgets.  A user should be able to add widgets into the program, rather than in a separate file.

    Fifth, when items are grouped together, being able to use the 'Edit Location and Size' to control the entire group.  Currently you can't do that.

    Hope that helps,

    Robert

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    After working with Axure for over a year now, one thing I would suggest, can the generated prototype have a list of variables and their values, perhaps in another frame or in the comments frame at the bottom?

    I often have to check these to make sure my, often complex, conditions are correct and have to close the frames and check the values of the varibales in the URL.

    Hope this would be an easy one to add into an already awesome product!!

    Would be great to have a Pen tool for free drawing Bezier curves.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Can we have a 'Swap Image' option for changing images and stuff around or a 'Swap Masters'
     tool for making is easier to adjust the tools that are used.

     Particular useful for updating items that are now created as a template.

    This could be accessible via the right-click mouse option.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

    Not sure if this has been suggested - but it would be great to be able to perform conditionals based on panel states. I.e. we can SET panel states based on actions but we cannot CHECK panel states and then perform actions based on them.

     For example,

    IF panel x is visible do y

    ELSE IF panel a is in state state1 do z

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks Chris. We're planning to add this to a release scheduled for early next year.
