    Improvements to site tree

    Hi,

Just want to drop a few thoughts down here:

Been using the site tree a lot recently to organize and determine groupings for a site, and then outputting that as a site map from Axure.

It works pretty well - however it's very time consuming as the connectors seem to have a mind of their own (even with do not auto flow turned on)

However, some minor enhancements to the site tree would really improve the use of this:

    1. It would be great if you can 'hide' pages in the site tree. Sometimes I create a lot of pages that I don't want to appear when creating the site map diagram. It's good that you can turn off pages in the specification generator, but it seems logical to me to be able to do this from the tree itself. It would then have the effect of hiding certain pages from the prototype (which is what I want to do sometimes...)

    2. Be able to classify pages: at the moment you can assign Page or a Flow - I'd like to be able to assign different types of pages: Content, Forms, Email, Widget and so on... and then have Axure use it's icons (from the downloadable icon library) to mark each page accordingly. This will really help the visual look of site maps

    3. I already raised this one with Victor: but a nice to have would be another window pane that had a bank of pages in it, that can be dragged and used in the site tree. This way I can keep a library of pages I might use - and would also double up as a great card sorting utility, right there inside Axure. I'm forever deleting and then recreating pages whilst I'm trying to decide on the site structure and flow, as I do most of this thinking inside Axure with the tree. (The advantage of this being that when I'm done, I've pretty much got my list of pages ready for wireframing. Plus it's nice having the site map linking to the wireframes in the HTML prototype.)

    all the best,

    Luke

Something that would be really useful for something that's really annoying is to have an object attached to a table cell.

You know when your prototyping a table and have to change a column or row and they have a cell that has and image or panel, you have to manually relocate each one.

If the objects were attached to the cell this would not happen.

     All the best...

The ability to center the prototype within the browser would be nice. I'm currently re-building the agent website for my company. The current site is centered in the browser and due to the prototype not being centered it makes it hard to flip back and forth and see if everything is lined up properly.

    Thank you,

    Stéphane Bergeron:

I'm a new Axure user myself and I already ran into a need to validate an email address and was surprised that this was not built in already.

I also agree that the conditional logic should be a lot more flexible. I would add "Is Not" which I was also surprised not to find there and built in validation for common types like email, date, and credit card numbers.

    Stéphane

I agree. Common validation types should definitely be in a future release.

    Thank you,

    William

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

I would request that when using the [Set Variable and Widget values equal to] action that I would be able to type in the statements instead of having to go through the interface to select a widget and a value.  I have a prototype where a single interaction will clear out all of the data on a form, which has 5 separate states of each field contained in a dynamic panel.  It took me over an hour to go through and click each widget and each value for each widget.  Not to mention, the Interaction Case Properties window breaks when you go over a certain amount of "set value" lines.  You end up having to scroll a ridiculous amount and the more you add the more you scroll.  I would have been able to save myself hours of time if I could just type in the statements vs. going through and "clicking".  Once you know what the initial statement format is, it would be so much easier to simply copy and paste and modify each line for your needs.

OR I could have unlimited variables available to me so I wouldnt have to set data in fields each time an interaction occurs - 25 variable limit has been very difficult to work around in this kind of prototype where I have a form with many input fields that I need to track and attach conditional interactions to.

It would be even better to have both unlimited variables and the ability to type in my cases/actions/statements :)

And the icing on the cake?  --> Someone already mentioned adding in some common validations for fields - I'd take that a step further.  I know it would probably be a lot to ask, but an expression builder for validation would be very useful.  More and more these days, clients/stakeholders want to see the business rules embedded in prototypes and alot of the time that includes validating/analyzing the data in an input field.  Being able to build an expression to parse the input data (like a regEx) would be the bomb!

It would be ideal to be able to use regular expressions so that there could be a base library but they could also be built upon to reflect the validations our company requires and could also be shared if people wished to.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

In the Annotations settings of the Specification generation window I would like to be able to turn on and off different object tables depending on my audience without having to delete and re-add if I want to do this now.

It would also be helpful if I could select a specification audience (eg. Marketing, Developers, Management) from a drop menu on that screen that would have a set of predefined Object Tables with options checked. Actually this would be good if it could setup the entire set of options across the specification setup.

    Hi Custa,

One way you could manage this today is by creating separate specification configurations for each audience. Generate->More Generators and Configurations will open a dialog so you can create additional spec configs.

Is there a way to then share those settings with other team members?

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

Hi Mark, specification configurations are stored in the .rp files and can be imported from file to file using File->Import from RP File.

Thanx Victor, just what I was looking for. Would be good to import multiple types of things in a future version, but it is saving me time already.

    Re: Suggestions for Future Releases

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, I didn't run across it in a search, but it would be lovely to be able to save custom color palates and then load them in a new project.  It is pretty time consuming to have to enter color values each time you need them, or even if you add them to the custom color selections in the color picker widget, you have to change them manually if your color palate changes. It would be great to be able to do this once and then save it, load it when you need it again.

I wonder how open the Adobe Swatches (ASE) are that you can grab from Kuler? Maybe Axure could consume them too?

    3 most wanted:

    • Ability to close tabs by clicking on them with the mouse wheel button
    • Fix Edit > Repeat - it doesn't work even with simple actions like shading, line style, font etc
    • Simple arithmetic to be able to add variables together etc
